Summary

Impact Ops is looking for an experienced Chief of Staff to join our leadership team and support the CEO in scaling the organization. The starting salary range is £60,000 to £75,000, depending on prior experience and location. There may be flexibility in salary for exceptional candidates with significant strategic leadership experience.

About Impact Ops

Impact Ops is an independent organization that provides operational support to high-impact nonprofits, many of our clients work on AI safety, alignment, and governance challenges. Our services include finance, recruitment, entity setup, due diligence, ops audit, and systems implementation. We’re a “remote-first” organization with team members and clients based across the world.

Key responsibilities

As Chief of Staff reporting directly to Joshua Axford, Co-founder & CEO, you will act as a strategic operator and trusted advisor driving organizational alignment and execution. Your key responsibilities will include:

Strategic Alignment & Business Development:

  • Leading comprehensive client service reviews and identifying improvement opportunities across all service lines
  • Owning business development processes, maintaining high standards for client engagement
  • Developing and executing strategies for new market expansion 
  • Managing inbound client requests and implementing efficient pre-screening processes
  • Identifying strategic networking opportunities for organizational growth

Operational Excellence & Systems Implementation:

  • Overseeing major internal system developments, including CRM implementation and process optimization
  • Leading organization-wide AI tool adoption and change management initiatives
  • Designing and implementing robust service delivery frameworks
  • Ensuring compliance through contract review coordination and process standardization
  • Managing website strategy and resource portal development to enhance client experience
  • Streamlining proposal generation and client communication workflows

People Operations & Organizational Development:

  • Co-ordinating  internal hiring rounds as we scale, working closely with leadership on capacity planning
  • Owning the HR function with focus on professional development, performance reviews, and team engagement
  • Managing the organizational handbook and ensuring strategic documentation is accessible and current
  • Support the planning and coordination of team retreats and maintaining strong remote team culture
  • Developing clear policies team benefits and engagement levels
  • Tracking team morale, managing recognition programs, and overseeing team inventory and equipment

Strategic Planning & Performance Monitoring:

  • Developing organizational resilience frameworks and strategic planning documentation
  • Collaborating on key business performance indicators and impact measurement systems
  • Synthesizing complex organizational challenges into actionable strategic recommendations
  • Acting as communication bridge between CEO vision and team execution
  • Anticipating risks and identifying opportunities for organizational improvement

About you

You’ll need to have:

  • 5+ years of experience in strategic operations, consulting, or chief of staff roles in fast-paced environments
  • Proven track record managing cross-functional projects and driving organizational change
  • Experience with stakeholder management and influencing without direct authority
  • Strong analytical and systems thinking capabilities with attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to synthesize complex information
  • Experience with business development or client relationship management

You’ll also likely have:

  • Experience working in or with nonprofits, social impact organizations, or mission-driven environments
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic planning, process design, and performance measurement
  • Enthusiasm for adopting cutting-edge technologies, particularly AI tools, with willingness to lead change management
  • Experience with HR operations, team development, or people management
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives
  • Interest in or understanding of the AI safety, alignment, and governance landscape
  • Experience with CRM systems, proposal development, or business operations
  • Leadership potential with collaborative, optimistic approach to problem-solving

 

Benefits and salary

Your starting salary range is £60,000 to £75,000 depending on prior experience and location. There may be flexibility in salary for exceptional candidates with significant strategic leadership experience.

  • Global team retreats: As a remote team we hold in-person staff retreats twice a year, to work on our plans and build strong working relationships.

This is a full-time role, but part-time would also be possible. We prefer candidates who can overlap with European timezones, but we’re open to other arrangements for exceptional candidates.

  2. Screening call: Attend a brief screening call, where you’ll have the chance to ask questions about the role.
  3. Interview: Attend a remote interview to assess strategic thinking and team fit.
  4. Work trial: Attend a paid, remote work trial — where you’ll spend the day meeting the team and completing strategic assessments.
  5. References: Share references who can comment on your strategic and operational capabilities. If your references are strong, you’ll receive an offer!
